Weekend planning tips
Scottish weekends peak on Saturday evening across all cities, but Sunday has its own personality — quieter, more family-focused, and often better value. Museums, galleries and family attractions run their headline programmes on Saturdays and repeat quieter versions on Sundays. Cathedral concerts, brunch gigs and Sunday-league sport all cluster in the second half of the weekend.
For nightlife, Edinburgh's Cowgate, Glasgow's Sauchiehall Street and the West End, and Aberdeen's Belmont Street stay busy from Friday through Sunday. For daytime, city centre markets and the Royal Mile buskers make free, walk-up plans easy in the middle of the day.
