Aberdeen's beach display is arguably the most dramatic in Scotland, launched from the Esplanade over the North Sea. Dundee's Baxter Park display and Stirling's King's Park event both combine fireworks with fairground rides.
Hogmanay fireworks
Edinburgh's Hogmanay finale from Edinburgh Castle is one of the best-known firework displays in the world. The Street Party ticket gets you into Princes Street for the midnight moment, but you can also see the display for free from Calton Hill, Salisbury Crags and Inverleith Park — arrive by 10pm for a spot.
Stonehaven's Fireballs Ceremony is a completely different tradition worth travelling for: swinging fireballs of tar and paraffin through the harbour streets at midnight.

If loud bangs are an issue, look for community-organised 'low-noise' displays — Livingston, East Kilbride and Perth have all run these in recent years. They swap crackers and whistles for pure visual pyrotechnics.
