Free Museums in Glasgow
Glasgow has more free public museums than any UK city outside London. Here's the full list, ranked by how much of your afternoon they deserve.
Every Glasgow Life museum is free to enter. That includes the flagships — Kelvingrove, the Burrell, the Riverside — and a run of smaller specialist collections that would be ticketed almost anywhere else.

Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum
The city's most-visited attraction, and rightly so. Salvador Dalí's Christ of Saint John of the Cross is the headline piece, but the Scottish colourists, Charles Rennie Mackintosh room and Spitfire hanging in the west court are all worth the trip. Free daily organ recital at 1pm.
The Burrell Collection
Reopened in 2022 after a £68m refurbishment and it shows — the redesigned galleries in Pollok Country Park now make sense of Sir William Burrell's staggering 9,000-object collection. Chinese ceramics, medieval stained glass and Degas ballet drawings, all under one roof, all free.
Riverside Museum and Tall Ship
Zaha Hadid's transport museum on the Clyde covers everything from Glasgow-built locomotives to skateboards. Walk out the back door and board the Glenlee, a tall ship built on the Clyde in 1896 — also free.
GoMA, People's Palace and specialist museums
The Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA) in Royal Exchange Square is Scotland's most-visited modern art gallery. The People's Palace on Glasgow Green tells the city's social history. St Mungo Museum of Religious Life and Art, Provand's Lordship, Scotland Street School Museum and the Glasgow Police Museum are all free and quietly excellent.
